At the Paro International Airport, one of our representatives will receive you and escort you to the hotel in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. If your flight is scheduled for the morning shift, we will be able to visit a few places in Thimphu. Your journey begins at Paro International Airport, where you'll be greeted by one of our representatives. You'll then be escorted to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital city. En Route to Thimphu:

Simtokha Dzong: During your drive from Paro to Thimphu, you'll make a stop at Simtokha Dzong. This historic fortress is believed to be the first dzong ever built in Bhutan and holds cultural and historical significance.

Upon reaching Thimphu, you'll check in at your hotel. Memorial Chorten: After getting settled, your first cultural visit to Thimphu will be to the Memorial Chorten. This impressive Tibetan-style Buddhist monastery is known for its golden spires and bells. It's a prominent landmark and one of the most visible religious structures in Thimphu.

Depending on your arrival time, you may have some free time to explore Thimphu further, enjoy local cuisine, or unwind at your hotel. Spend the night at your hotel in Thimphu as you prepare for more exploration and experiences in Bhutan's capital city in the following days.

On the second Day, the Bhutan trip in Thimphu includes cultural experiences and exploration of the city. Attend the sacred Thimphu Drubchen Festival, held in the courtyard of Tashichho Dzong.

Thimphu Drubchen Festival: Start your day by attending the Thimphu Drubchen Festival, also known as Thimphu Dromchoey. This sacred festival takes place in the courtyard of Tashichho Dzong. The dzong is an impressive fortress, often called 'the fortress of the Dharma Raja.' It has a rich history and serves as the traditional seat of Bhutan's civil government. The dzong was rebuilt in 1902 without the use of nails or written plans after being damaged in an earthquake in 1897. At the festival, you'll witness locals dressed in their finest attire, many of whom have travelled long distances to participate in the festivities.

Folk Heritage Museum: Continue your exploration of Thimphu with a visit to the Folk Heritage Museum. This museum, the first of its kind in Bhutan, offers insight into the traditional Bhutanese way of life. It's housed in a structure that combines both monastic and administrative facilities.

On the third Day, with a mix of cultural experiences, religious observations, and picturesque landscapes. Start your day by returning to the Thimphu Drubchen Festival to witness a few significant religious dances. These dances are an integral part of the festival and provide an immersive experience of Bhutan's rich religious and cultural traditions.

Changakha Lakhang: After the festival, visit Changakha Lakhang, a temple with a stunning view of the city. This temple is not only known for its panoramic view but is also the oldest temple in Thimphu, dating back to the 12th century. Explore the historical and spiritual significance of this ancient site.

After lunch, embark on a picturesque drive to Wangdue, a town in central Bhutan. On the fourth day, your journey through Bhutan continues with more cultural experiences and a scenic drive to the beautiful Gangtey Valley. Attend the Wangdue Tsechu Festival in the morning.

Wangdue Tsechu Festival (Morning): Start your day by visiting an army ground, which is a short five-minute walk from Wangdue Dzong. Here, you'll have the opportunity to observe the Wangdue Tsechu Festival. The term 'Tsechu' refers to a religious festival that is conducted annually on the 10th day of the 10th month of the Bhutanese calendar. It's a significant cultural and religious event, and you'll witness traditional Bhutanese dances, ceremonies, and vibrant costumes

After the festival, embark on a 2-hour drive to the entrance of Phobjikha Valley, followed by an additional hour's drive to Gangtey. Explore Gangtey Gompa, the largest Nyingma Monastery in Bhutan.

On the fifth Day, you'll be travelling to Trongsa and Bumthang. Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at your accommodation in Gangtey. After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Trongsa. The name Trongsa translates to 'the new village' in Bhutanese, and it holds cultural significance with its retreats, temples, and hermitages where monks often reside.

Chendebji Stupa: During your journey to Trongsa, you'll have the opportunity to make a stop at the Chendebji Stupa. This stupa is constructed in a style reminiscent of the Boudhanath Stupa in Nepal and is a place of cultural and spiritual importance.

After exploring Trongsa, continue your drive to Bumthang, one of the most spectacular valleys in Bhutan. Bumthang is not only known for its natural beauty but also for being the spiritual and historical heartland of the country.

Tamshing Phala Chhoepa Festival: Proceed to Tamshing Village to immerse yourself in the vibrant Tamshing Phala Chhoepa Festival. This religious festival is a significant cultural event that offers a unique opportunity to witness traditional Bhutanese dances, rituals, and performances. Enjoy the colourful festivities and experience the rich cultural heritage of Bhutan.

Visit Tamshing Lhakhang: Explore Tamshing Lhakhang, a historical and spiritual site located across the river from Kurje Lhakhang. This Lhakhang was founded in 1501 by Terton Pema Lingpa, believed to be a reincarnation of Guru Padmasambhava. The Lhakhang holds religious significance and features unique Bhutanese architecture and artistry.

Visit to Mebar Tsho (The Burning Lake): In the evening, embark on a visit to Mebar Tsho, also known as The Burning Lake. This natural formation is more of a gorge than a traditional lake. It holds immense spiritual importance and is known for its tranquil surroundings.

On the seventh Day, you'll continue your exploration of Bumthang, visiting ancient sites and important monasteries. Exploring Bumthang's Ancient Sites and Monasteries. Start your day with a nourishing breakfast at your accommodation in Bumthang.

Visit to Chakhar Lhakhang: Begin your day by visiting Chakhar Lhakhang, also known as the "Iron Castle" Lhakhang. This site holds historical significance as it was the palace of the Indian King Sindhu Raja, who extended an invitation to Guru Rimpoche to come to Bumthang. The original palace was made of iron, giving it the name Chakhar.

Kurjey Lhakhang: Explore Kurjey Lhakhang, a complex of three temples. The temple on the right, built in 1652 by Trongsa Penlop, is of particular importance as it is located against the rock face where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century.

Jambay Lhakhang: Visit Jambay Lhakhang, which is the oldest monastery in Bhutan, dating back to the 7th century. This ancient and sacred site is known for its historical and cultural significance.

Jakar Dzong: Discover Jakar Dzong, often referred to as the "Fortress of the White Bird." This dzong is historically significant as it was the first place Guru Rinpoche visited in Bhutan and where he initiated the conversion to Buddhism. Jakar is also considered the birthplace of Buddhism in Bhutan.

This dzong holds immense historical significance in Bhutanese history, as it played a pivotal role in the establishment of the present ruling dynasty in Bhutan. After you visit Trongsa Dzong, you can take some leisure time to relax and appreciate the historical and cultural richness of this region. Visit Chimi Lhakhang: After visiting Punakha Dzong, you will proceed to Chimi Lhakhang. This monastery, located on a round hillock near Punakha, is famous for its association with Lama Drukpa Kinley, known as 'the Divine Madman.' The colourful prayer flags and unique symbolism at this site make it a culturally rich and spiritually significant destination.

Today's highlight is a visit to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the 'Tiger's Nest.' This famous Bhutanese landmark is perched dramatically on the side of a vertical cliff at an altitude of 3,000 meters (9,847 feet). The hike to Taktsang Monastery is an exhilarating experience and a pilgrimage site for both tourists and locals. It's believed to be the place where Guru Rinpoche (Guru Padmasambhava) meditated for several months in the 8th century. The hike takes approximately 4.5 hours for the round trip and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Visit Drukgyel Dzong: After completing your hike to Taktsang Monastery, you'll proceed to Drukgyel Dzong. This historic fortress, once an administrative centre, unfortunately, suffered a fire in 1951 that destroyed most of the structure. Despite the damage, you can still explore its remnants, including robust walls and charred wooden posts and beams. The site carries a sense of history and offers insights into Bhutan's past.

Kyichu Lhakhang: Your next stop is Kyichu Lhakhang, an important Himalayan Buddhist temple located near Paro Airport.
