Drive to Dochu-la Pass: Depart from Thimphu and head towards Punakha. Along the way, you'll drive up to the Dochu-la Pass, which is situated at an elevation of 3,088 meters (10,130 feet). Take a brief stop here to soak in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Admire the chortens (stupas), Mani walls (stone walls with Buddhist mantras inscribed), and colourful prayer flags that adorn this high mountain pass. If the weather is clear, you'll be treated to spectacular vistas of the high Himalayan peaks to the northeast.

On a clear day, you can see several prominent peaks, including Masagang, Tsendegang, Terigang, Jejegangphugang, Kangphugang, Zongaphugang, and Gangkar Puensum, which is the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497 meters. The view from here is truly awe-inspiring. Visit Semtokha Dzong: En route to Punakha, make a stop at Semtokha Dzong. This historic fortress, built in 1627, is the oldest dzong in Bhutan. Today, it houses the Institute for Language and Cultural Studies, contributing to the preservation of Bhutanese culture and language.

Today, you'll embark on a picturesque journey from Punakha to Jakar in the Bumthang Valley. The drive will be long but filled with stunning landscapes and cultural experiences. Begin your day with an early start to make the most of the journey to Bumthang.

As you leave Punakha, you'll be treated to dramatic scenery along the way. The drive will take you through terraced farmland, deep river valleys, and traditional Bhutanese farmhouses perched precariously on the mountainsides. The east-west highway has been ingeniously carved out of the mountain faces, providing awe-inspiring views. Your first significant stop will be in Trongsa, a quaint village. If official business permits, you may have the opportunity to visit Trongsa Dzong. This dzong is the ancestral home to Bhutan's monarch and holds historical significance. It's a place where you may encounter novice monks reciting mantras or practising on sacred musical instruments like horns, flutes, or drums.

After exploring Trongsa, continue your journey toward Bumthang. Along the way, you'll pass over the picturesque Yotong La mountain pass, which offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Descending into the Chhume Valley, you'll arrive in Bumthang, known for its rich cultural heritage and beautiful scenery. The Chhume Valley is famous for Bhutan's Yatra weaving, which is a traditional form of textile weaving. Bumthang is a beautiful and culturally rich region in Bhutan, and on Day 5 of your exploration, you will have the opportunity to visit some ancient Buddhist temples and monasteries, enjoy a traditional Bhutanese lunch, and even explore a local beer brewery and cheese factory.

Jambay Lhakhang: Start your day at Jambay Lhakhang, a historical temple built in the 7th century by Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. This temple is one of 108 monasteries constructed by the king to subdue evil spirits in the Himalayan region. Explore the temple's architecture and history.

Kurjey Lhakhang: After visiting Jambay Lhakhang, head deeper into the valley, passing through farmlands for about half an hour to reach Kurjey Lhakhang. Kurjey Lhakhang is particularly significant as it comprises three temples:

The right temple, built in 1652, is located against the rock face where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century. The middle temple stands on the site of a cave containing a rock with the imprint of Guru Padmasambhava's body, making it the holiest of the three.

Valley Walk: Continue your valley walk from Kurjey Lhakhang, crossing a suspension bridge and passing through small villages and farmlands. This walk will give you a chance to experience the natural beauty and rural life of the Bumthang Valley. Take a break from your exploration and enjoy a traditional lunch at a local farmhouse. Red Panda Beer Brewery and Cheese Factory: Wrap up your day with a visit to the Red Panda Beer Brewery and the Cheese Factory. Here, you can learn about the local production of beer and cheese, both of which are important components of Bhutanese cuisine. Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel in Punakha. Check out from your Punakha hotel and prepare for your journey back to Paro. The drive from Punakha to Paro will take approximately 4 hours to cover a distance of 130 kilometres. Enjoy the scenic beauty along the way.

Upon arriving in Paro, you will have the opportunity to explore some of the town's most iconic attractions. Your first stop will be at Ta Dzong, which was once a watchtower and has been converted into the National Museum of Bhutan. Here, you can explore a rich collection of ancient Bhutanese art, artefacts, weapons, coins, stamps, and a small natural history collection.

In the afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a sacred temple believed to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan king, Songtsen Gampo. It is one of the 108 temples constructed in the Himalayas by the king and marks the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan. Explore the serene grounds and the ancient temple, taking in its historical and spiritual significance. After your sightseeing tour, you can enjoy some leisure time in Paro.

Early in the morning, prepare for an exciting and spiritually enriching excursion to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger's Nest. Start with a hearty breakfast at your hotel in Paro, as today's adventure will require energy. Taktsang Monastery is one of Bhutan's most iconic and revered sites. It's perched dramatically on the side of a cliff and is believed to be the place where Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Bhutanese Mahayana Buddhism, meditated after arriving here on the back of a tigress. The hike to Tiger's Nest is an approximately 2-3 hour trek, depending on your pace. It's a challenging but rewarding journey that takes you through lush forests and offers breathtaking views of the Paro Valley below.

Upon reaching Tiger's Nest, take your time to explore the monastery complex, visit its temples, and absorb the spiritual atmosphere. The main structure was damaged by a fire in 1998 but has been meticulously restored to its former glory.
