The location offers panoramic views of the capital city, providing a serene and picturesque backdrop for your exploration.
National Memorial Chorten: Next, pay a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, a significant landmark in Thimphu. It was originally conceived by Bhutan's third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, as a tribute to world peace and prosperity. The chorten serves as both a memorial to the late king, often referred to as "the father of modern Bhutan," and as a symbol of peace. Take time to walk around the chorten, observe the prayer wheels, and soak in the spiritual atmosphere.
Folk Heritage and Textile Museums: Explore Bhutanese material culture and the way of life at the Folk Heritage and Textile Museums. These museums provide valuable insights into the rich heritage and traditions of Bhutan. You can expect to see a fascinating collection of textiles, artefacts, and exhibits related to Bhutanese culture. Please note that these museums are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays.
Institute for Zorig Chusum (Painting School): Visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum, commonly known as the Painting School. Here, students undergo a six-year course in the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. You can observe the students as they learn various skills and techniques. Note that the institute is closed on Sundays, government holidays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Handicrafts Emporium: Explore the Handicrafts Emporium, a government-run enterprise that showcases a wide range of beautifully hand-woven textiles and craft products.
