On your second day in Bhutan, you will continue your exploration of the country's rich culture and history.

Start your day with a visit to the Institute for Zorig Chusum, commonly referred to as the Painting School. This institution plays a vital role in preserving and promoting Bhutan's traditional arts and crafts. Students here undergo a comprehensive six-year training program to master the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. During your visit, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the skill and craftsmanship that goes into Bhutanese art. It's important to note that the institute is closed on Sundays and government holidays.

Your next destination is the National Library, which houses an extensive and invaluable collection of Buddhist manuscripts. This visit will offer you a glimpse into Bhutan's rich literary heritage and the significant role that literature plays in the country's culture. Please be aware that the National Library is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays. After your cultural explorations, enjoy a delicious lunch in Thimphu, savouring Bhutanese cuisine and local flavours.

Return to Paro: Following lunch, embark on the drive back to Paro, a journey that will take approximately 1 hour to cover a distance of 54 kilometres.

Visit Ta Dzong: Upon your arrival in Paro, explore Ta Dzong, a historic structure that originally served as a watchtower and now houses the National Museum. The museum's collection is a treasure trove of ancient Bhutanese art, artefacts, weapons, coins, stamps, and a small natural history collection. This visit will provide fascinating insights into Bhutan's cultural and historical heritage.

Your second day in Bhutan promises a deeper dive into the country's cultural and artistic traditions, as well as an enriching experience in the heart of its capital, Thimphu, and a journey back to Paro filled with historical discoveries.

Your morning will be dedicated to an exciting excursion to one of Bhutan's most iconic and sacred sites, the Taktsang Monastery, often referred to as the Tiger's Nest.

Taktsang Monastery - The Tiger's Nest is a renowned and sacred monastery that holds profound religious significance in Bhutanese culture and Buddhism. According to legend, it is believed that Guru Rinpoche, the founding father of Bhutanese Mahayana Buddhism, arrived at this location on the back of a tigress and engaged in deep meditation within the monastery's premises. The setting of the monastery, dramatically perched on the edge of a cliff, is both breathtaking and symbolic.

Please be aware that the hike to Taktsang Monastery is challenging and can take several hours. It's important to be physically prepared for this journey and to ensure you are equipped with suitable attire and essentials for the hike. The trail will take you through stunning landscapes and provide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, making it an unforgettable and rewarding experience.

It's worth noting that the main structure of the monastery faced significant damage in a fire in 1998. However, the Bhutanese people have dedicated years to meticulous restoration work to fully restore this treasured complex to its former glory. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to witness the beauty and grandeur of this lovingly restored masterpiece.
