Upon your arrival at Paro Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative from Journey DMC who will assist you with the necessary arrival formalities. Paro is the gateway to Bhutan and offers a picturesque introduction to the country with its stunning landscapes and serene atmosphere.

After completing the arrival formalities, you will be transferred to your hotel in Paro. Take this time to relax and unwind from your journey and get settled into your accommodation. Paro is a charming town located in a beautiful valley and is known for its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. You can explore the town in the evening, maybe take a stroll, and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the restaurants in the area.

Overnight at the hotel. [-/L/D]

Your trek commences with a scenic drive 12km north of Paro Valley to the newly constructed Drugyal Dzong at 2580m, serving as the starting point. Upon arrival, your trekking crew awaits, and after a brief meeting, your journey unfolds. Descend on a broad trail along the Pachhu (river), passing through meticulously maintained rice terraces and millet fields. As the valley expands, you'll encounter apple orchards, traditional farmsteads, and quaint settlements like Mitshi Zampa and Sangatan. Traverse a serene blue pine forest to reach the army post of Gunitsawa at 2850m, the final checkpoint before Tibet. After crossing the Pachu River on a wooden bridge, ascend to Sharna Zampa at 2870m, where several tree-surrounded meadows offer a tranquil campsite for the night.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Continuing your trek, the trail meanders along the Pachhu (Paro River), taking you through undulating terrain amid pine, oak, and spruce forests. After approximately 2 hours of continuous hiking, crossing several streams, you'll arrive at Shingkharap, a stone house situated at 3110m. Following a bridge crossing to the left side of the river, a hot lunch awaits. Soon, you'll encounter a trail junction – the left path representing an ancient trade route and the right leading to a wooden bridge (opting for the right path). Ascending through rhododendron forests and crossing the bridge once again, you'll reach the camp at 3750m, nestled amidst picturesque meadows.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

While today's trek may not cover an extensive distance, a notable gain in altitude awaits as the trail ascends above the tree line. Departing from the camp, ascend until you reach the army camp, and then trace the river above the tree line, revelling in the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Traverse through a muddy trail section, passing a mani wall and entering the realm of yaks. A hot lunch awaits within a yak herder's camp. Post-lunch, journey past yak herder settlements of Soe and Takethang, where locals cultivate barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final approach involves crossing a plateau, ascending a stream bed, and reaching the impressive campsite of Jangothang at 4040m. The panoramic views of Mount Jumolhari and Jichu Drake from this location are truly magnificent.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

On this day, engage in a crucial acclimatization hike lasting four hours, heading north from your camp. Despite the absence of a defined trail, ascend on an open and expansive slope until you witness the majestic view of Mt. Jichu Drake (6989m). For those seeking an extra challenge, scramble even higher to 4895m (surpassing the height of Mount Blanc), revealing an astonishing panorama of Mount Jumolhari. This unique environment offers opportunities to spot rare blue sheep, Himalayan rhubarb, griffon vultures, golden eagles, and the remarkable blue poppy. Jangothang base, with its flat grassy expanse and a weathered fortress on a hillock, provides a backdrop beneath the towering peaks of Mount Jumolhari and Jitchu Drake. While the altitude may pose challenges, taking the time for acclimatization at this point is essential. Whether opting for the hike or simply unwinding in camp, the day promises to be a truly memorable experience.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on your journey as the trail shadows the stream for approximately half an hour before crossing the bridge to the right side. Begin the ascent to the first ridge, unveiling a breathtaking panorama of Jumolhari (7314m), Jichu Drake (6989m), and Tsherim Gang (6789m). Traverse towards the valley, relishing a relatively flat stretch until you ascend to the Ngye La pass at an altitude of 4700m. Upon reaching the pass, the path leads to a gradual descent, allowing you to savour the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the captivating Lingshi Dzong. The journey promises a fusion of challenging climbs and awe-inspiring landscapes in the heart of Bhutan's wilderness.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a visit to the historic Lingshi Dzong, majestically perched on a hilltop, offering a commanding view of verdant hills, meandering rivers, and magnificent peaks. For centuries, Lingzhi Dzong served as a crucial way station for weary Buddhist pilgrims and a formidable defence fort against Tibetan and Mongol invaders. This leg of the journey promises a leisurely and delightful walk through quaint villages and the camps of yak herders. Following lunch, a short stroll leads you to the charming village of Chebisa, adorned with a captivating crystal-clear waterfall. Set up camp by the soothing stream, nestled at an altitude of 3850m, and immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings of this picturesque location.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Commence your trek with a challenging ascent, climbing steeply up a ridge to reach the Gogu La pass at an elevation of 4500m, a journey spanning nearly four hours. The rocky terrain near the top of the pass often provides sightings of rare blue sheep, enhancing the trekking experience. Post the pass, descend through rhododendron bushes to a designated lunch stop. In the afternoon, continue along the trail with intermittent ascents and descents, crossing streams and traversing rhododendron forests and yak herders' camps. Your destination for the day is Shakepasa at 3980m, nestled amid the natural beauty of the surroundings. The journey involves a steep climb to the northern side of the valley, passing by yak herder camps, and finally arriving at Shakshepasa, your camp beside a serene stream at an altitude of 4250m.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

The trek embarks with a journey through a trail adorned with Edelweiss flowers, ascending to the Jari La pass at an altitude of 4700m. To the southeast, the majestic Kangbum peak, standing at 6526m, graces the horizon with its snow-capped presence. The descent leads to the Tsarijathang valley, serving as the summer abode for the elusive Himalayan Takins, Bhutan's national animal. Crossing the stream, often without a footbridge, the path ascends again, ultimately reaching Robluthang—a rocky meadow campsite situated at an elevation of 4200m.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a challenging journey today as you ascend to cross the highest pass in the entire trek. Climb steadily through boggy patches, crossing streams and navigating marmot holes and moraine until you reach the summit of Shingchen La pass at an elevation of 5005m. The panoramic view from the top, featuring the snow-covered Gangchenta or Tiger Mountain (6840m) dominating the northern horizon, is nothing short of breathtaking. Post the pass, descend through a rugged rocky trail, tracing the moraine river valley down to the Kango Chhu River. The path, at times narrow, may require stream crossings, adding an adventurous element. After traversing cedar forests, you'll arrive at Lingmethang (4140m), a picturesque scattered meadow by the river, with the majestic Tiger Mountain towering in the background, serving as your campsite.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Wake up to the enchanting sight of Gangchenta Peak, standing majestically in front of you. Embark on a delightful trek to Laya, offering magnificent views along the way. Traverse through a lush, damp forest adorned with moss and the melodious tunes of singing birds. As you continue, the landscape unfolds, treating you to splendid vistas. Your destination is Laya village, positioned at an altitude of 3,800m, making it the second-highest settlement in the country. The journey not only provides visual delights but also immerses you in the serene ambience of Bhutan's high-altitude beauty, creating a memorable trekking experience.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Take the opportunity to explore the charming surroundings of Laya village. Wander around and visit the local houses, where you'll experience the warm embrace of traditional Bhutanese hospitality. Even to a perfect stranger, locals extend invitations for tea and Chang, the local wine, creating an atmosphere of genuine friendliness. The people of Laya, particularly the women, are captivating. Adorned in traditional black wool kiras and distinctive conical bamboo hats adorned with turquoise, silver ornaments, and strings of beads, they add a colourful and cultural touch to the picturesque landscape. Immerse yourself in the unique culture of Laya, appreciating the traditions and customs that define this remote Himalayan village.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Descend to the Lunana trail junction before ascending to a hilltop that offers stunning views over the Mo Chhu and the Rhodo Chhu. The trail then follows the Rhodo Chhu valley, initially through mixed coniferous forests and later through rhododendron-covered terrain above the tree line. As you trek, you'll encounter a large rockslide that provides a vantage point for views of the glacial valley and a massive glacier on Tsenda Gang (7100m). Your campsite for the day is at Rodophu, positioned at 4160m, just beyond a wooden bridge that crosses the Rhodo Chhu river, offering a serene spot to rest and recharge amidst the Himalayan wilderness.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Today's journey unfolds through alpine grasslands, where yaks roam freely in abundance. Tracing the river amid rhododendron shrubs, the path eventually veers right, ascending the hillside. Ascend to a high, open valley adorned with meadows, reaching the Tshomo La Pass at an elevation of 4915m. The panoramic views of Mount Jomolhari and the Tibetan borders from this vantage point are truly breathtaking. Continue your hike across the barren plateau, intersecting several yak trails, until you arrive at Narithang (4900m), your camp for the night. The trek showcases the pristine beauty of Bhutan's wilderness, offering diverse landscapes and majestic mountain vistas throughout the journey.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a challenging climb today as you ascend to the Ganglakarchung Pass at an altitude of 5120m. From the pass, be treated to superb views of Kangbum (6530m), Tsendhen Gang (7100m), Teri Gang (7300m), and Jejegangphu Gang (7120m). The descent takes you through massive moraines, leading to the edge of a sheer cliff with views of glacial hanging from Teri Gang that forms two turquoise-coloured lakes at the base. One of these lakes, to the left, caused a flood downstream in Punakha in 1961 due to an outburst, destroying the Mochu Bridge. Descend through a steep path to the U-shaped valley, following the Tangchu stream to the right, until you arrive at your camp at 4350m. The day's trek combines challenging terrain with awe-inspiring glacial landscapes, providing a truly memorable experience in the heart of the Himalayas.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

The trail today takes you through juniper-covered terrain, following the Tangchu River on the left and passing by stunning waterfalls. After a gentle climb out of the valley, the path leads to a steep ascent to Woche Village, situated at an altitude of 4350m. Woche Village marks the initiation of the Lunana region. Above the village, you'll catch a glimpse of tomorrow's route leading to Ledhi. This region offers a picturesque blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, making the trek both challenging and rewarding as you journey through the heart of Lunana, one of Bhutan's remote and pristine landscapes.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a climb up the Woche valley, crossing a small stream and navigating a moraine. Descend to a wooden bridge over the Woche Chu River, then ascend past a clear glacial lake to reach the Keche La pass (4650m), offering magnificent views of nearby mountains. The trail then descends to the Pochu Valley, leading to Thaga village at 4050m. In the late afternoons, anticipate bitterly cold winds in Thaga Village during autumn. From Thaga, descend, passing scattered settlements and waterfalls, until you reach Lhedi (4200m) along the Phochu River bed. Lhedi village is equipped with a school, a Basic Health Unit, and a wireless station, providing a glimpse into the remote yet functional infrastructure of the region.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Today's trek offers a relatively easier path. Follow the north bank of the Phochu River, passing through several small farms until you reach Chuzo Village (4090m), likely around lunchtime. En route, take the opportunity to visit Chezo Dzong. Continue along the trail, following the riverbed, and then climb a steep hill that overlooks the Thanza Valley at an elevation of 4250m. The day's journey combines cultural exploration with scenic landscapes, allowing you to appreciate both the traditional architecture of Chezo Dzong and the natural beauty of the Thanza Valley.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Today presents two optional activities for you to choose from. One option is to visit Thanza Village, an almost untouched, medieval-like society where people weave and dye their clothes, creating unique hats, boots, and jewellery. Homes are constructed from stone walls, hand-hewn wood shingles, and clay mortar. The villagers rely on grains, yak meat, and cheese from the lower valleys for sustenance. Alternatively, you can embark on a hike through small moraine rocks to reach clusters of Raphstreng Tsho and Thorthormi Tsho, glacial lakes that are the source of the Phochu River in Punakha. These lakes were involved in a flood in 1994 due to a moraine outburst. Enjoy superb views of the 7100m Table Mountain (locally known as Zongphu Gang), forming a 3000m high wall of ice and snow behind Thanza Village. The day offers a choice between cultural immersion and exploring the pristine natural wonders of the region.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a climb to a large boulder hill south of Thanza. After a few hours of easy walking, you'll reach Danji (4500m), a summer grazing ground for yaks. Here, you may witness herds of blue sheep grazing on the meadows. Ascend a few hundred meters from Danji to the top of the ridge, providing excellent views of the surrounding mountains. After about 20 minutes, you'll reach the junction of trails leading to Gangkar Phunsum and Tshochena. Take the trail to the right, leading to Jaze La pass. Jaze La, standing at 5200m, offers majestic views in all directions. Descend from the pass-through snow-capped peaks and lakes to reach Tshochena at an elevation of 5000m. The day's trek combines diverse landscapes, from grazing grounds to high mountain passes, providing a rich experience in the heart of Bhutan's pristine wilderness.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Today's trek unfolds as you follow the shore of a captivating blue-green lake before ascending to a ridge at 5150m, providing panoramic views of snowy peaks in a 360-degree panorama. The distant road and microwave tower at Dochu La are visible from this vantage point. The trail undulates over small, rounded hills, passing a glacial lake en route to the Loju La pass (5170m), a yak pasture with crisscrossing yak trails. Follow a trail that crosses a small saddle-like hill at 5120m, leading to a wide glacial valley. Descend further to reach the Jichudramo camp (5050m), marking the highest campsite on the entire trek. The day promises breathtaking views and diverse landscapes as you traverse high-altitude terrain in Bhutan's remote wilderness.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a climb through a moraine path leading to the picturesque Rinchen Zoe pass (5350m), which serves as the divide between the Phochu and Mangdechu basins. From this pass, enjoy stunning views of Gangkar Puensum (7520m), the highest mountain in Bhutan. Descend through a broad marshy valley featuring strings of lakes, steep moraine faces, and yak pastures until you reach Tampe Chu, nestled amidst rhododendron and juniper forests. Your camp for the night is set at Thongsa Thang (4400m), a short distance from Chukarpo. The day's journey promises a visual feast of Bhutan's pristine alpine landscapes and mountainous grandeur.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Descend along the right bank of a river to the Galapang yak pasture at 4025m, and then embark on a steep climb through forests of junipers and silver firs until you reach Tampetsho. The trail to Tampetsho follows a stream leading to a stunningly clear, turquoise-coloured lake, cradled within a bowl surrounded by steep ridges. Set up camp at the end of the lake at an elevation of 4320m. The serene beauty of Tampetsho, nestled amid the Bhutanese wilderness, provides a tranquil setting for your overnight stay, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of nature.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Embark on a steep climb to the Tampela Pass (4600m) today, where sightings of blue sheep on the mountain slopes are common. Descend to the Omtsho Lake, a body of water steeped in legend as the site where the renowned saint Terton Pema Lingpa miraculously discovered treasure in the 15th century. The trail leads along the lake's shore, passing its outlet marked by prayer flags, before descending steeply past a waterfall to a small lake. Continue along the left bank of the Nika Chu River, cross a wooden bridge, and traverse mixed forests until you reach Maraothang (3620m). This wide-open area features yak herders' camps and serves as your final night's campsite.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

On the final day of the trek, the trail gently descends through mixed deciduous and bamboo forests. Continue the descent through forests and pastures, eventually connecting to a large grassy area overlooking the motor road and Sephu Village (2650m). Your transportation will be waiting here to transfer you to Wangdue, where you'll spend the night in a hotel in Punakha. This marks the conclusion of your trekking adventure, providing a smooth transition from the wilderness to more comfortable accommodations as you reflect on the memorable journey through Bhutan's stunning landscapes.

Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]

Today you will drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. En route visit Punakha Dzong, which is stunningly situated in between the male and female rivers like an anchored ship. Then drive to Thimphu via Dochula pass. Check into the hotel on arrival. After settling in, drive to Kuenselphodrang where the 169ft giant Buddha statue sits. It is supposedly the largest bronze statue in the world. You can spend some time exploring and clicking pictures. Evening is at your leisure. You may explore Thimphu town on your own.

Overnight at the Hotel. [B/L/D]

The drive from Thimphu to Paro offers a picturesque journey through Bhutan's captivating landscapes. As you depart from the capital city, Thimphu, the winding roads take you through lush greenery and mountainous terrain. Covering a distance of approximately 55 kilometres, the journey typically lasts 1 to 1.5 hours.
