First Sermon of Lord Buddha
The first sermon of Lord Buddha, commonly known as the "Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta" or the "Turning of the Wheel of Dharma," holds great significance in Buddhism. This pivotal event is said to have occurred at a deer park in Sarnath, India, shortly after Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. During this inaugural sermon, Lord Buddha addressed his five former ascetic companions, collectively referred to as the "Five Ascetics," who had previously accompanied him in a life of asceticism but had parted ways when he abandoned extreme practices. In this sermon, Lord Buddha elucidated the teachings of the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
