Tshechu
A "Tshechu" is a traditional religious festival celebrated in Bhutan, as well as in some other regions of the Himalayas, including parts of Tibet. These festivals hold a central place in Bhutanese culture and are marked by enthusiastic and fervent celebrations. The term "Tshechu" derives its name from the Bhutanese word for "tenth day," and it is often associated with the tenth day of specific months in the Bhutanese lunar calendar. The highlight of Tshechus typically revolves around masked dances performed by monks or members of the local community. These intricate dances depict a range of narratives from both Buddhist mythology and history, and the masks worn by the performers carry profound cultural and religious significance.
